Coach Hufty begins his fourth season as head coach and has over 14 years of experience coaching flag football at the high school and collegiate levels. Originally from Chicago, IL, he graduated from Florida State University in 2012 and currently resides in Live Oak, FL.

 

Hufty was hired to lead the Timberwolves Program in January of 2022 and would go on to lead Florida Gateway to the National Championship in the program's inaugural season (2022-2023). En route to the National Championship, the Timberwolves finished with a 15-1 team record. Individually, Destiny Lockett was named both the Most Valuable Player and Defensive Player of the National Tournament, and Coach Hufty was named the NJCAA Coach of the Year.

 

Hufty and the Timberwolves followed up an impressive first season with an even more dominant second season (2023-2024), which included a 15 game winning streak, a 15-1 team record, and another National Championship, defeating Hesston College in a best of 3 championship series (26-13 in Game 1; 45-6 in Game 2). Five FGC Athletes were recognized as All-Championship Tournament players (Tremesha Harris, Makenzie Phillian, Chinera Shaheed, Ashley Smith and Alex Harris), and Hufty was awarded the NJCAA Coach of the Year for a second time.

 

In his third season in charge (2024-2025), Hufty guided the Timberwolves to their third consecutive NJCAA National Championship and an 18-3 overall record, including the FCSAA Region 8 Championship. In the NJCAA National Championship in Kansas City, MO, FGC overpowered Daytona State College, winning 68-13 in dominant performance. Tremesha Harris was named Most Valuable Player, and Hufty was awarded the NJCAA Coach of the Year for the third year in a row. Overall, Hufty has compiled a record of 48-5 in three years at Florida Gateway.

 

Prior to coming to Florida Gateway, he spent time as the head coach at Leon HS, Rickards HS, and Suwannee HS, along with stints as an assistant coach at Leon HS and Godby HS. He also played a pivotal role in establishing the Florida State University's Club Flag Football team in 2017-2018. Hufty's passion for the sport extends beyond coaching; he has a background in scouting and player evaluation from his work with XOS Digital (now Catapult Sports), he helped organize the statewide senior high school all-star game through the Florida Athletic Coaches Association (FACA) and previously served on the FHSAA Flag Football Advisory Board. He currently serves as the first president of the NJCAA Flag Football Coaches Association. He is also the recipient of several esteemed accolades, including the 2017 All Big Bend Flag Football Coach of the Year, the 2018 FACA Meritorious Service Award, and the aforementioned 2023, 2024 and 2025 NJCAA Coach of the Year.
